The vet came out to give Chance and Lucky their fall shots and do some follow up acupuncture on Chance. The vet said that Chance has increased flexibility especially in his cervical spine and has gained weight and muscle mass!!!!!!
His feeding regiment is as follows:
AM:
- 6 quarts of Nutrina Safe Choice Senior Feed
- 3 quarts hay stretcher
- Alfalfa hay mix (as much as he wants through out the day)
PM:
- 6 quarts of Nutrina Safe Choice Senior Feed
- 3 quarts hay stretcher
- Alfalfa hay mix (as much as he wants through out the day)
- 1 Scoops of DuraLactin (Natural anti-inflammatory and pain supplement)
- 1 SmartPak (Senior Flex, Immune Boost)
He is out all day when it is cool and all night when it is hot during the day. So he has tons of green grass to eat. He walks constantly- up and down the hills- and runs around with Lucky. We also walk ground poles and do stretches and massage every time I come out to the barn.
We still need to continue upping his weight and muscle mass preferably before winter. Fingers crossed.
Green Acres
Today was an absolutely beautiful day. There was a slight breeze and barely any humidity. Needless to say, we took full advantage!
First Time In Over A Decade….
I was able to throw on a saddle and get on Chance! He is finally strong enough for me to “ride”….and by “ride” I am referring to walking around in a ring. We walked in circles and figure eights and over some ground poles for about 15 minutes. It was absolute bliss!
Sadie followed us around the ring the entire time…
and Lucky stood by and watched!
Coming Home to Love & Peace
Chance was able to come home a week later. Sam & John went to pick him up at the hospital. However, upon arriving, they soon found out that Chance did not want to get on the trailer. Sam later told me that one of my sweatshirts was in the truck, so she brought it out and let him smell it- he finally loaded.
I got his stall ready- tons of fresh shavings, hay, a new water bucket…
The moment he got off of the trailer he was shaking! I gave him a warm bath and let him out in a small, flat paddock so he could be in the sunshine.
This is what happened when I let him out! He did something he had not been capable of doing for months and months, if not longer.
